We know that most people think of protecting their things from theft but when you want to protect the things that are most important to you, you also have to consider losing them to fire or water damages. It is possible to find the type of safe that offers everything you need.

Types of Safes

There are all types of safes that you will be able to choose from. If you have digital files, a media safe is a good option for you. The things you would store in a media safe would include cd’s, hard drives, DVD’s, or flash drives. If you work for yourself and need to protect your business interest, look into purchasing a media safe. They are usually designed with high standards that protect the contents from fire and humidity. Our locksmiths highly recommend that you select a safe that is burglar proof, fire proof and waterproof. If you have difficulty finding the right one, just remember that our associates are happy to consult with you about the type of safes that you will be able to choose from.

Choosing the Right Anti-Theft Ratings Safe

Product Safety Certifications are provided by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. These ratings are displayed on the home safe that you choose to purchases and is known as its rating. Most safe ratings are provided by the Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL). The safe must pass through intense testing before they give it a rating that is then prominently listed on safes. Insurance companies depend on these stands that are set-forth by UL to ensure the quality of the product. We highly recommend that when you are purchasing a safe, you purchase one that is UL rated. The safes that you will find with UL ratings include the following:

TL-15 Rate

The TL-15 Rating has been awarded this rating because it has met precise construction requirements that have been initiated by Underwriters Laboratories. The test lasts for up to 15 minutes and requires the use of hand held tools that would commonly be used by a thief to gain access. This could include anything like a drill or hammer. If the tester is unable to get inside within the 15 minutes allotted, the safe is given a TL-15 Rating.

What to Do, Ignition Cylinder Problems

Cars are a funny thing. Everything on them can be in perfect working order except for one little switch or fuse and your car still may not run. That’s exactly the case if you have a broken ignition switch or one that’s going bad. If your ignition switch will not engage when you turn your key in it then your car will not run no matter what else you do.

So, what do you do when an ignition switch fails on your vehicle and leaves you stranded? Most people would probably make an emergency call to a locksmith to get this situation resolved. A mechanic might also be an option or a friend with more than average mechanical ability.

One of the best ways to avoid getting stranded because of an ignition cylinder that has gone bad is to get it worked on or replaced before it fails. That is why we are taking the time to write this article. We will point out some of the warning signs that your ignition switch is about to fail and also give you some reasons why a locksmith is the best person to call to resolve your ignition cylinder emergency.

Signs Your Ignition Cylinder is Going Bad or Broken
  • Main Relay Does Not Click When Key Is Turned
If you don’t hear a click when you turn your key in your ignition cylinder just before the engine starts to turn over this can be a sign of a problem. That click is the result of the switch inside your ignition cylinder telling your car it’s ok to turn over and start running.
  • Key Turns Hard in Ignition or Won’t Turn at All
If you have to really force your key hard when turning it in your ignition cylinder that is not a good sign either. Chances are you have some pretty worn out mechanical parts inside your ignition cylinder and it’s about to fail.
  • Ignition Cylinder Gets Hot
If your ignition cylinder gets hot to the touch when you turn your key in it that’s a bad sign too. This could mean that the cylinder is starting to develop an electrical short inside it. An electrical short develops when two electrical contacts no longer come together fully and the electricity arcs across then and causes a heat buildup.
  • You Have Trouble Unlocking Your Steering Wheel
If you have trouble getting your steering wheel to unlock as you turn your key in your ignition cylinder this can be an indication that wear and tear on that cylinder is starting to show itself.
  • Accessories Won’t Power on When the Ignition Switch Is Activated
If you have your ignition cylinder in the ‘on’ position but your car’s radio or other accessories won’t come on, that generally indicates and ignition cylinder problem is starting to rear its ugly head.
  • Your Car Suddenly Stalls While Driving It
This is rare but an engine stall could be traced back to the inside of your ignition cylinder acting as if you had turned your key to the off position. This can be very dangerous when you are driving to say the least.

Why an Ignition Cylinder is nothing to Mess Around with when it’s Failing

There is a reason why we pointed out to you these signs that your ignition cylinder might be failing and shouldn’t be ignored.

When your ignition cylinder fails that’s it; your vehicle will not run again until you get it fixed. This can leave you stranded someplace that you may not want to be. There is definitely a safety factor that comes into play if your ignition cylinder goes bad.

If you are stuck in a parking lot late at night that certainly is not the most comforting feeling in the world. Not to mention, there is a chance if your ignition cylinder fails when driving your car will stop running and you will also lose your power assisted steering.

Home Security Checklist

Movies and TV Shows glorifies the accomplishment of the high-end heist. These bad guys are stylish, dressed in black leather and have some of the most advanced tools. Projected as heroes, these people have the sharp mind and clear plan of action.

In reality, professional burglars look like an innocent man walking down the street. They are looking for the opportunities to target a new house and break into the home of hardworking citizens.

Last month, three men broke into my parent’s house, where I spent twenty-nine years of my life, and stole treasures we worked hard for. It’s heartbreaking! I can’t get into the details of the burglary as the investigation is still on. There are few laxities that came to the forefront which we can’t ignore. And unless we take some concrete actions to protect our house, we are vulnerable to such attacks. These are simple and effective steps you can take to protect your home from break-in or theft.

1. Install quality locks and doors

It would be a great favor for the thieves by not taking care of the point entrance. Install solid doors, windows, and deadbolt locks; make it harder for burglars to enter the home. Even the professional burglar will not spend more than few seconds to open the door. He would avoid making a noise while trying to break into a house as it will be too risky for him. Get in touch with Locksmith service providers to get a quote and detailed consultation to secure your home.

2. Maintain your shrubbery

Maintain shrubbery so that it doesn’t look overgrown as it is a perfect place for a burglar to hide behind. It should be of a perfect height to create a barrier and low enough that no one can hide. Display “Beware” signs if you have a dog or alarm. It definitely works!

3. Install a security system

A high-quality security system is one of the most important you can do to protect your home and family. Consider many aspects before buying the security system – size of your home, entry points etc.

A monitored home security system is the perfect way to have a surveillance whether you’re at home or away.

4. Automatic Lights and Motion Sensor

Install automatic lights and motion sensor as burglars are more active at night. Motion sensor lights offer a perfect balance between energy efficiency and security. Motion sensor technology will sense movement in the dark and will scare the intruder.

5. Secure home when leaving on vacation
80% of times burglary takes place when there is no one in the house for a long period. When you are going away on vacation it is important that you should take care of the following things:

a) Inform your neighbors of your plans and request them to watch your home when you are away.
b) If possible ask someone to collect the mail or held by the postal service. Piles of unattended mails is a good sign that the house is empty.
c) Cancel newspaper in advance. If it is not canceled then ask someone to take care of the newspapers/parcels/deliveries.
d) Appoint at least two light timers so that they can switch on and off lights.
e) If possible, hire a guard to take care of your house when you are away for a longer duration.

6. Keep expensive items out of sight

As much possible, keep expensive items out of sight as it will tempt burglars to target your house. What is a good incentive to a burglar to pick your house? An expensive flat screen TV or music system visible from the window can tempt him to pick your house. Do not leave the boxes of your last purchased home or kitchen appliances around your yard. Keep your curtains drawn…you never know who’s watching!

7. Keep jewelry and important documents in safe/lockers.

It may seem like an obvious thing to do but most of us ignore it. It is EXTREMELY important to keep your jewelry and important documents in a locker or safe. Rent a bank locker or hire a reputable service provider to keep your valuables out of your house. provider. If this isn’t possible then you need an in-house safe/locker to keep it safe. Get a picture and note down every single piece of jewelry and document that you keep in a safe.

8. Record the serial number of your valuables.

Thieves cannot run away with a serial number. It is important to record the serial numbers and description of your valuables (e.g home and kitchen appliances, laptop etc.). This process is important as it can help you get your items back if ever you become the victim of the crime.
